Don't Be A Dick

Change Yourself, Change Your World
By Mark B. Borg
Concepts
  • Dickery
The author's term for self-focused, contemptuous, and defensive behaviors rooted in introjected rage and insecure attachment that consistently damage relationships and backfire on the person using them.
  • Introjected Rage
Internalized anger from early wounds that gets unconsciously directed outward as contempt, criticism, or controlling behavior toward others.
  • Righteous Dickery
The self-justifying flavor of harmful behavior where a person believes their mistreatment of others is warranted, fueled by victimhood or a sense of moral superiority.
  • Emotional Intoxication
The addictive quality of reactive, contemptuous behavior — the temporary rush of power or relief it provides — which keeps people returning to it despite long-term costs.
  • Accountability Without Self-Dickery
The practice of owning one's harmful behavior honestly without swinging into self-punishment or self-pity, a prerequisite for genuine change and reconnection.
