Softened Start-up

Starting soft turns arguments into conversations where both people can actually hear each other.

A softened start-up is Gottman's technique for introducing a difficult topic gently and without blame, reducing the likelihood of triggering defensiveness in a partner. Conversations that begin softly are far more likely to resolve productively.
